Changed lending conditions from 1 November 2022

The extended lending regulations made in the 'Corona context' will be reset to the standard settings valid before 'Corona' on 1 November.

In concrete terms, this means

  • Until 31 October 2022, you can extend the loan periods of your borrowed media as often as you like up to a total loan period of two years. For university employees, the loan period is automatically extended up to a total loan period of three years.
  • From 1 November 2022, you can extend the loan periods of your borrowed media as often as you like up to a total loan period of one year. For university employees, the loan period is automatically extended up to a total loan period of two years.

Media that have been reserved by another person are of course excluded from the loan period extension.

If you receive a request to return items in the next few days, please check whether the loan periods of the items you have borrowed can be extended using the renewal function in your library account. If this is not the case, the items are either on hold or the maximum total loan period has been reached. This will increasingly be the case in the near future, so please plan accordingly to return borrowed items on time.

"Brain Breaks" again every Tuesday and Thursday in the library

From 13 September 2022, my beneFIT@upb.de will once again be offering "Brain Breaks" in the library. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 15:00 to 16:30, students can simply drop by without prior registration and take part in small sessions of relaxation and concentration exercises under the guidance of trainers. The duration of the exercises and participation can be decided by the students themselves.

The meeting point in the library is the transition from level 4 to the specialised library level 2 in building I.

The offer for students is a cooperation between my beneFIT@upb.de and the university library. This on-site offer had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus situation. It is therefore all the more pleasing that students can now once again be offered the opportunity to take short breaks from studying in the library with guided relaxation and concentration exercises.

It is therefore all the more pleasing that the Competence Centre for Writing and the University Library are once again offering students a central point of contact where they can ask questions about academic work and literature searches in catalogues and databases.

Further information on writing advice can be found on the Competence Centre's homepage.

Introduction of a new library management system

Service restrictions from 5 July to 1 August 2022

The University Library intends to put the cloud-based library management system Alma into operation on 1 August 2022.

The migration process required for this is part of a project that began at the end of 2019 and will run until the end of 2023, in which 42 university libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia will replace their heterogeneous, outdated library systems with a standardised and future-proof system for the state (see our newsletter no. 14/2019 from 9 December 2019).

At Paderborn University Library, the change from the previous library management system Aleph from Ex Libris to the new web-based system Alma from the same manufacturer means a fundamental "update" that affects all processes and transactions in dealing with printed and electronic media (from acquisition and cataloguing, resource management, data for literature searches in the catalogue, user data management to lending, etc.).

In order to prepare and carry out extensive data migrations, it is necessary to "freeze" the data in the old system. As a result, we will not be able to offer our services to the usual extent during the changeover.

You can find out about the details of the temporary restrictions and changes to our services on our homepage on a daily basis.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us during service hours in the library, by phone, email or chat.

[Planned service restrictions]

Corona protection measures

With the recent amendment to the Infection Protection Act, the legal basis for the majority of the previously applicable coronavirus protection measures no longer applies. The obligation to wear a medical mask in accordance with the CoronaSchVO in the library's user areas therefore no longer exists. Proof of compliance with the 3G regulation is also no longer required.

However, in the interests of mutual protection, we ask you to continue to use the proven hygiene measures in the future and to continue to wear a medical mask indoors.

Citavi - Licence for the reference management programme is extended

Further information about Citavi can be found on our website.
