Catalogue: Tables of contents reintegrated into the search function

As part of the "Catalogue Enrichment" project, the bibliographic title data listed in the library catalogue is enriched with additional information, in particular with tables of contents.

These tables of contents can be found in the catalogue in the detailed view of a title under "Link to other content".

The actual text is usually extracted from the scanned tables of contents using OCR text recognition. This can be used in search portals - such as in our catalogue - to make the tables of contents searchable. The tables of contents thus provide subject-specific keywords that can be helpful for research.

Before the changeover to the new library system in August 2022, these OCR texts were automatically imported into the library system via the University Library Centre (hbz) and could thus be searched directly in the catalogue. However, this interface is no longer available in the new library system.

Paderborn University Library has now successfully set up its own autonomous process that independently collects the available OCR texts of the tables of contents and makes them searchable in the catalogue.

This means that the tables of contents can now be searched again via "All fields" or by selecting the "Table of contents" field.

Further information can be found in the catalogue blog.
