Library card

Paderborn University Library is a publicly accessible academic library.

The library card allows personal access to the catalogue and to the Internet PCs in the library's user areas, the borrowing of information media from the library's collection and the ordering of information media from the stacks and from other libraries (interlibrary loan).

On this page we have compiled the most important information for you on how to apply for, activate and use your library card.

Each card must be activated once before it can be used for the first time. This can be done on the login page of the catalogue via 'Activate now'.

The library provides the library card for all library users in electronic form as an e-library card. This means you always have your library card with you on your smartphone.

The e-library card can be accessed on the smartphone via the library account in the catalogue. It is also possible to save the e-library card directly in Apple Wallet or a compatible wallet app on Android devices. Further information can be found in the catalogue blog.

For students, the e-library card is also available in the UPB app.

Employees and our external users can currently still obtain a physical library card in the form of a card.

The library card must be activated before it can be used for the first time. Information on activation.

You need a PIN for your library card to borrow media via the self-checkout devices. It serves as additional protection for the library account against unauthorised use.

You set the PIN yourself when activating the library card, or it can be set or changed later via the library account in the catalogue.

You set the password for your library account when you activate your library account.

You can access your library account via the University Library catalogue and change your password there under the menu item"My data".
