Building and renovation work in the University Library from the beginning of June 2009

Over the next few months, extensive building and refurbishment work will be carried out in the University Library.

The existing data network and electrical installations are to be expanded and modernised in order to meet the constantly growing demands. In addition, the air conditioning and ventilation system will be revised and optimised to improve the climatic conditions in the library in response to the increasing number of requests made to the University Library. This work is being carried out to make the working conditions in the University Library more pleasant for you.

As part of an environmental analysis carried out by Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW Bielefeld, it was found that some of the building materials used in the construction of the University Library are classified as pollutants according to the latest findings. Therefore, in addition to the planned extension work, remediation work will also be carried out in which these building materials (e.g. mineral fibre insulation materials above the ceiling panels) will be disposed of.

For this purpose, individual fields of the UB will gradually be sealed off to make them dust-tight and thus inaccessible for use.

We will try to minimise the disruption as much as possible. Unfortunately, however, it will be unavoidable that the work will lead to restrictions in the use of the library.

As soon as more precise dates can be given for the fields affected, we will inform you in good time via our website and notices in the library and keep you up to date.

We ask for your understanding in advance for the expected disruptions!
