In the face of an ever-increasing flood of information, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain an overview. It is therefore becoming increasingly important for successful study and professional life to know the relevant information resources and to use them sensibly. We make many important information resources available to you free of charge within the eLibrary. Here you will find specialised databases for your literature research and references to electronic journals and eBooks for direct link to corresponding full texts. In addition, the eSeminar apparatuses offer uncomplicated access to the media provided by your lecturers.
So, would you like to be ahead of the game with your seminar papers and theses? On 6 and 7 November 2007, we will be setting up an information stand in front of lecture theatre C1 to show you which sources of information you can find in our eLibrary and how you can get there quickly and easily. Two places with short introductions set to music invite you to inform yourself. Subject-specific summaries provide a compact introduction to the wide range of resources available in the eLibrary. If you have any questions, expert staff on site will be happy to help.

05.11.2007 - Guided tour of the library
Dr Marlene Tiggesbäumker gives a short tour of the university library to a delegation of engineers from Harbin University in northern China, accompanied by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr Jörg Jarnut.
20.10.2007 - "Book spectacle" and university library
On Saturday, 20 October 2007, there will be a "Book Spectacle" at the Paderborn University. There will be a varied and diverse programme on the subject of books for children and adults.
The event is the result of a seminar organised by students of the Institute of Education Studies on the subject of "Project Methods in Theory and Practice". It will mainly take place in the foyer in front of the H lecture theatres.
The University Library is participating in the event. Visitors of all ages are cordially invited,
- find out about the services offered by the library at the University Library stand between 10.00 and 15.00 and
- take part in the guided tours of the library at 11.00 and 14.00.

17.10.2007 - The University Library will be present with a stand at the "Market of Opportunities" in the main entrance area of the University (near the Service Centre) on Wednesday, 17 October 2007, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
All first-year students are cordially invited to come and find out more. No one should miss out on this: getting to know in the first week what some older students haven't even realised yet ...
26.09.2007 - Taster course in natural sciences and engineering for schoolgirls
From 25 to 27 September 2007, the "Taster course in natural sciences and engineering" will take place for schoolgirls from schools in Paderborn and the surrounding area. The event, organised by the University's Equal Opportunities Officer, will take place partly in the Notebook Café in the University Library. The University Library will be taking part on Wednesday 26 September between 9 and 10 a.m. with a short introduction to the library and its services (Ms Julia Weidner).
02.07.2007 - Job profile of the academic librarian
Many graduates of a history degree programme do not work as historians after their exams, but use the skills they have acquired during their studies in a variety of ways. The degree programme is therefore a key to entering various professional fields, including media and libraries.
As part of the basic seminar "Introduction to Media and Libraries", Ms Julia Weidner presents the job profile of an academic librarian and talks about possible additional qualifications after studying history.

09.05.2007 - Guided tour of the library
Dr Marlene Tiggesbäumker gives a short presentation on the university library for members of the Gütersloh CDU city association, who are visiting the university at the invitation of Mr Christoph Schön. Some rare books from the library's holdings and the "smallest" and "largest" books will also be on display.
26.04.2007 - Girl's Day (also) at Paderborn University Library
This year's "Girl's Day - Girls' Future Day", organised by the local equal opportunities offices in the district of Paderborn, will take place on 26.04.2007.
The varied programme of the Paderborn University offers girls the opportunity to get to know scientific and engineering professions and courses of study at the university.
The University Library is taking part in this event and is offering two work experience placements from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the "Media and Information Services Specialist" training programme.

Dr Marlene Tiggesbäumker takes part in a careers information event for school pupils organised jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Paderborn and the Paderborn Employment Agency at the Paderborn Computer Library (ComBi). Careers in the fields of bookselling/publishing/library will be presented.

16.01.2007 - Book bazaar
On Tuesday, 16 January, the University Library is holding its ninth book bazaar in the entrance area of the library (Notebook Café) from 9 am to 5 pm.
Around 5,000 books from almost all departments will be on offer, in particular economics, computer science, linguistics and literature as well as household, nutrition and food sciences (including various cookery books).
The books will be shelved separately according to department, so that it will be possible to orientate yourself by subject.
The prices are EUR 0.50 for journal issues, EUR 1.00 for paperbacks and EUR 2.00 for bound volumes. If you buy five volumes, you will receive one volume as a bonus.
The proceeds of the book bazaar will be used exclusively for the purchase of new scientific literature.
