25.10.-20.11.2016: "Farb(t)räume" - Exhibition by Elke Jürgens in the Paderborn University Library
In the exhibition "Farb(t)räume" (Colour spaces), artistic works by Elke Jürgens will be on display at Paderborn University Library from 25 October to 20 November 2016.
The palette of expressive, colourful compositions executed in various techniques by the Paderborn artist ranges from dynamic, mostly non-objective acrylic paintings, some with incorporated found objects, to figurative colour etchings and screen prints with portraits of famous artistic personalities.
The works reveal the artist's joy in working with colour. By juxtaposing different colours, she manages to create ever new spaces with depth of colour. The paintings and prints give viewers plenty of scope to immerse their souls in the pictures.
The vernissage will take place on Tuesday, 25 October 2016, at 16:00 in the foyer of Paderborn University Library. The pictures can then be viewed during the opening hours of the University Library: Monday to Friday: 7.30 a.m. to midnight, Saturday to Sunday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (closed on public holidays).

09.02.-15.03.2016: 'Eine "Archäologie des Wissens"? Displays und Dispositive zu vergessenen Lehrmaterialien der Universität Paderborn'
Exhibitions make things visible, allowing them to enter into a dialogue with visitors. This applies not only to things that we call art, but also to found objects or everyday artefacts. The students of the "Ding und Display" project seminar in the subject area of art, led by Tim Pickartz, were confronted with a collection of things that not only seemed uninteresting or unimportant, but were also already classified as waste: Slides, roll cards, OHP transparencies, index cards - teaching materials from a wide range of disciplines at Paderborn University that had been thrown away. Is their content outdated? Are these analogue media no longer up to date? Were they no longer used for other reasons? The students addressed these questions with artistic research that seeks the value of the profane individual object not in its usefulness, but in the micro-histories inscribed in it - the part of history that official historiography overlooks. For selected objects that are now exhibits, exhibition displays have been developed that visualise such small stories, raise new questions for the viewer and open up space for dialogue.
The vernissage will take place on 9 February 2016 at 16:00 in the foyer of Paderborn University Library. Tim Pickartz will introduce the exhibition, followed by three seminar participants in action: Michèle Baldes and Merle Schulte will offer a mediation talk on selected objects and displays, Francis Kaiser will carry out her performance "Der Sinn der Linie". The students' offerings will be repeated on "Teaching Day 2016" (16 February 2016) from 4.00 pm.
The exhibition can be visited from 9 February to 15 March 2016 during the opening hours of the University Library: Monday to Friday: 7:30 am to midnight, Saturday to Sunday: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

07.-31.01.2016: 'Kubanische Frauen' - exhibition of works by Cuban photographer Yosjan González Palais
Yosjan González Palais is a Cuban photographer who has lived in Paderborn since 2013. His works are exhibited throughout Germany and internationally. In Paderborn, his works were shown at the Paderborn Photo Days 2015, among others.
From 7 to 31 January 2016, his exhibition 'Cuban Women' will be shown at Paderborn University Library with pluralistic photographs of Cuban women that reject polar divisions, dual codes and the 'unified concept of women'. Cuban women are more than Caribbean sensuality ...
The exhibition was inspired by the Paderborn University's MIA gender and women's project area. In keeping with the motto 'Together!', MIA invites you to the exhibition opening on 7 January 2016 at 16:00. The artist will be present at the opening and, together with the MIA team, is looking forward to stimulating discussions.
Opening hours of the university library:
Monday to Friday: 7:30 to 24:00,
Saturday to Sunday: 9:00 to 21:00.
