08-19 December 2014 - Exhibition "Türkische Literatur in Deutschland - in deutscher Übersetzung" in the University Library
Turkey is not only a booming economic country, but also a literary nation. This is demonstrated by an exhibition currently on display in the foyer of the University Library. This valuable exhibition was organised as part of the Turkish Week. Created for Turkey's guest of honour appearance at the Frankfurt Book Fair, poster banners provide a vivid overview of important works of Turkish literature that have been translated from Turkish into German. They include classics such as the novelist Yasar Kemal and the poet Nazim Hikmet, as well as authors such as Fakir Baykurt, who lived and wrote in Duisburg for a time.
Dr Karin Yesilada from the Department of German Studies will explain at the opening on 8 December at 3.30 pm what role Turkish literature also plays in intercultural German studies. Readings will take place as part of Turkish Week (8 December, 2.30 pm, Q0.101 and 8.00 pm, Jenny Aloni-Haus/Gästehaus), see also http://www.uni-paderborn.de/studium/international-office/aktuelles0/tuerkeiwoche/programm/

Monday to Friday: 7.30 am to midnight,
Saturday to Sunday: 9.00 am to 9.00 pm.

11 November - 19 December 2014 - "Von Paderborn nach Andalusien - ein Vierteljahrhundert Molino-Winkler-Stipendium": art exhibition at Paderborn University Library
Over 30 exhibitors are showing works that were created during a stay of several weeks in the Andalusian village of Árchez. All of the artists are united by the fact that they were recipients of the Molino Winkler Scholarship from Sparkasse Gütersloh, which is awarded annually to students from the art and textiles departments at Paderborn University. It enables the scholarship holders to live in the "Molino Winkler" for several weeks and work as artists there. The old mill building was acquired in the 1970s by the well-known artist Prof. Woldemar Winkler (1902 - 2004) and converted into a studio and residence. From this time onwards, Prof Winkler continued to work there with groups of students into old age.
The exhibition, which is funded by the Woldemar Winkler Foundation of Sparkasse Gütersloh and Paderborn University, shows a cross-section of student work from 25 years. The differences and similarities between the various "Molino" generations become clear. They have all benefited from the opportunities offered by the artist's legacy and have incorporated the inspiring environment of southern Spain into their own works.
The opening will take place on 11 November 2014 at 17:00 in the foyer of Paderborn University Library.
The exhibition can be visited from 11 November to 19 December 2014 during the opening hours of the University Library:
Monday to Friday: 7.30 am to midnight,
Saturday to Sunday: 9.00 am to 9.00 pm.

29 April - 18 May 2014 - "Ach, so ist das?!": Comic exhibition of the AStA-Queer-Referat from 29 April to 18 May 2014 in the Paderborn University Library
Queer people in Germany are still subject to discrimination, whether in the public or private sphere. Discrimination is often caused by ignorance - a major problem is also the invisibility of queer people in society.
The travelling exhibition "Ach, so ist das?!" aims to help change this. On display are posters by comic artist and author Martina Schradi (Nuremberg), who creates comic reportages based on biographical stories in order to make the identity, lifestyle, experiences and experiences of queer people visible and understandable.
The exhibition can be visited from 29 April to 18 May 2014 during the opening hours of the University Library:
Monday to Friday: 7.30 a.m. to midnight,
Saturday to Sunday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (closed on public holidays: 1 May 2014).
