22 October - 4 November 2012 - "WissensRäume der Universität Paderborn. Bauen für Lehre, Studium und Forschung" from 22 October to 4 November 2012 in the foyer of the Audimax
The exhibition has been extended until 15 November 2012.
Founded on 1 August 1972 as a comprehensive university, Paderborn University is celebrating its 40th anniversary this autumn. As part of the celebrations, the University Archive is showing the exhibition "WissensRäume der Universität Paderborn. Bauen für Lehre, Studium und Forschung".
The structural development of the campus is presented in a photo documentation. It shows how the buildings constructed over the course of four decades not only bear witness to the immense growth of the university, but are also an unmistakable architectural expression of the university's changing self-image and its success and popularity as a research and teaching institution.
In addition to photographs, exhibits and displays illustrate a variety of aspects of university life.
The anniversary exhibition will be opened by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Risch, in the Audimax foyer in the run-up to the ceremony on 22 October at 5.30 pm. It can then be viewed daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until 4 November 2012.
Guided tours can be booked with the curator Dr Anikó Szabó.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a public lecture on Wednesday, 31 October 2012 at 4.15 pm in lecture theatre H3 by Prof. Dr. Süßmann, Department of History at Paderborn University, on the topic "Science as traffic? Experiences with Paderborn University architecture and its guiding principles".
22 October - 4 November 2012 - Exhibition "Der Ort des Wissens" in the University Library
The library building turned 35 years old this year. In recent years, the way researchers and students work and study has changed considerably. This has had an impact on the design of the library, its workstations and its services.
The exhibition shows how the University Library analyses the current situation, how it perceives criticism and suggestions from its users - and what ideas for future design could result from this.
The exhibition can be visited from 22 October to 4 November 2012 during the opening hours of the University Library:
Mon to Fri: 7.30am - midnight,
Sat to Sun: 9.00am - 9.00pm.
06-28.09.2012 - FORSCH: Travelling exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Heinrich Hertz Foundation from 6 to 28 September 2012 at Paderborn University Library
The Heinrich Hertz Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with the photo exhibition FORSCH. To mark the occasion, it called for proposals for a design competition for creative poster motifs. The task was completed in a course run by Professor Wilfried Korfmacher's design department at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in the 2010/2011 winter semester. The jury, chaired by the Chair of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, NRW Science Minister Svenja Schulze, came to a unanimous decision.
The Heinrich Hertz Foundation promotes academic exchange with scholarships for scientists in North Rhine-Westphalia and all over the world. The special thing about it is that there are no restrictions to certain countries, there are no restrictions in terms of subject, and talented students in the final phase of their studies are also eligible. One condition guarantees the quality of the applications: You cannot apply by yourself, but need a "sponsor" and two other academics to do so.
The Heinrich Hertz Foundation is an institution of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded on the initiative of Westdeutscher Rundfunk. It honours one of Germany's greatest researchers, whose work has made a significant contribution to the basis of modern communication and thus stands for international dialogue.
The travelling exhibition will be on display in Paderborn from 6 September to 28 September 2012 and will then make stops at other universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. It can be visited during the opening hours of the University Library: Mon to Fri: 7.30 - 24.00, Sat to Sun: 9.00 - 21.00. The Foundation hopes you enjoy viewing the exhibition!
