21-25 November 2011 - Paderborn University's UPBracing Team exhibits PX211 racing car in the University Library
From Monday, 21 November to Friday, 25 November 2011, the current racing car of the UPBracing Team of Paderborn University, with which remarkable placings were achieved this year at the races in Silverstone (England) and Györ (Hungary), can be examined more closely in the university library.
In the competitions, in which competitors from all over the world take part with their cars, the winner is not simply the fastest car, but the team with the best overall package of design and racing performance, financial planning and sales arguments.
The UPBracing Team was founded five years ago by seven students and now consists of around 100 members, of whom around 50 students from the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Economics are involved in the development and organisation each season.
New members are always welcome.
Further details can be found on the team's homepage at http://formulastudent.uni-paderborn.de/.
The racing car can be viewed during the opening hours of the University Library:
Mon to Fri: 7.30am - midnight,
Sat to Sun: 9.00am - 9.00pm.
02-16 November 2011 - 'Die Elektrotechnik aus der Sicht von Kindern' - Exhibition at Paderborn University Library
Since 1999, Paderborn University has been offering a children's camp for the children of university-affiliated parents during the school holidays. The childcare programme includes workshops from a wide range of fields, in which the 'young researchers' get to know the university as a family-friendly institution with lots to discover and learn.
As part of this year's autumn holiday camp, the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is offering a workshop entitled 'Electrical Engineering from your perspective'. During a visit to the department of Power Electronics and Electrical Drive Technology (LEA - Prof. Dr.-Ing. Böcker), the children will find out what research is being carried out in the group and what projects students are working on. They will also have the opportunity to work on smaller electrical engineering applications themselves and then record their impressions on paper.
These impressions will be shown in the exhibition 'Electrical Engineering through the eyes of children' in the Paderborn University Library from 2 to 16 November 2011.
The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the University Library:
Mon to Fri: 7.30 - 24.00,
Sat to Sun: 9.00 - 21.00.

17-26 October 2011 - Exhibition "Türkischdeutsche Literatur" from 17 to 26 October 2011 at Paderborn University Library
The travelling exhibition "Türkischdeutsche Literatur" will be on display at Paderborn University Library from 17 to 26 October 2011. This exhibition invites visitors on a literary journey of discovery through the Turkish-German literary landscape from its beginnings to the present day.
In addition to well-known contemporary authors such as Emine Sevgi Özdamar and Feridun Zaimoğlu, authors from the first generation of Turkish immigrants - such as Aras Ören and Fakir Baykurt - will also be presented. Small reading samples reflect the astonishing diversity of this Turkish-German literature, which initially went unnoticed: the quirky word acrobatics of Feridun Zaimoğlu, the playful poetry of Zehra Çirak or the critical tones of Zafer Şenocak. Portraits of the authors lend a face to Turkish-German cultural history.
The exhibition is part of the event series "50 Years of German Haymat" to mark the 50th anniversary of the recruitment agreement with Turkey. The series of events is organised by the research project "Turkish-German Cultural Contact and Cultural Transfer" at Paderborn University.
The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the University Library:
Mon to Fri: 7.30 - 24.00,
Sat to Sun: 9.00 - 21.00

01-11 October 2011 - Exhibition "Japan: Leben im Extremen" from 1 to 11 October 2011 at Paderborn University Library
Paderborn art student Sarah Sander spent a semester in Japan from September 2010 to February 2011. She is now presenting her personal experiences in the form of artistic works from the fields of photography, painting, textiles and the UNESCO Museum Suitcase Pedagogy in the Paderborn University Library as part of the practical examinations in the subject area of art from 1 to 11 October 2011.
The works range from an inventory of everyday life through photography, a critical examination of Japanese national pride and the textile culture of the Japanese and a museum case that brings the atomic bomb history of Hiroshima closer, to artistic works about the inscribed World Heritage Sites in Japan.
A final presentation will take place on 11 October 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., during which the artist will guide visitors through the exhibition and answer questions about her work.
The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the University Library:
Mon to Fri 7.30am - midnight,
Sat to Sun 9.00am - 9.00pm (closed on public holidays).
